As an elementary education major, I’ve started to realize that teaching is about more than just helping students learn how to read, write, and do math it’s also about preparing them to live in a world that’s much bigger than their classroom. Global education plays a big role in that. It helps students look beyond their own experiences and understand different cultures, traditions, and perspectives. When kids realize that their way of life isn’t the only way, it can really change how they see others. It encourages curiosity instead of judgment, which is something every classroom needs. From a social perspective, global education helps students build empathy. When they learn about kids their age in other parts of the world, they start to relate to them in more meaningful ways. As a future teacher, I want my students to feel comfortable working with anyone, no matter their background. That kind of understanding can help reduce bullying, stereotypes, and misunderstandings.
